Playbook Trainer is a free options trading game built on real market history. Instead of quizzing you on definitions, it drops you into the decision that actually matters: here is the tape, here are the priced plays — which trade do you put on? Every chart is a real past session with the dates masked, every option price comes from the historical option chain of that day, and every reveal shows what the market actually did next. You build pattern recognition the way traders do — by making the call, being wrong sometimes, and seeing exactly what it cost.

A worked example. Say SPX sits at 4,553 after grinding higher for a week, with VIX at 15 and falling. The round offers a bull put credit spread: sell the 4,510 put, buy the 4,460 put, and collect a $4.20 credit — $420 of max profit per spread. The most it can lose is the 50-point width minus the credit: $4,580, if SPX settles below 4,460. Breakeven is 4,505.80. If SPX simply stays above 4,510, the spread expires worthless and you keep the full credit. The trainer prices both legs from the actual quotes of that historical session — then the reveal shows whether the market held the level or ran you over.

Is Playbook Trainer really free?

Yes. Every session includes 10 free rounds with no account and no download. An optional SPXPlay Pro subscription removes the session cap for people who want longer practice runs.

Is the market data real?

Yes. Charts are real historical sessions, and spread prices come from the historical option-chain quotes of those dates, with simplified fills and a flat $1.30 per-trade commission. Dates are masked so you cannot look up the outcome — you have to read the tape.

Can I lose real money playing?

No. The bankroll is practice money. Playbook Trainer is not a brokerage, places no real orders, and never touches real funds.

Do I need an account?

No signup. Your practice stats and streaks are stored in your own browser.
