About SPXPlay

By VantureCap · Published July 21, 2026

SPXPlay is the home of the Playbook Trainer — a free browser game that lets you practice defined-risk options trades on real market history and see what each trade would actually have paid, without risking a dollar.

Who builds it

SPXPlay is built and operated by VantureCap, a small independent research shop that builds quantitative tools for options markets. Our day job is data work: collecting historical index and equity option quotes, backtesting spread strategies, and measuring what actually happens after different market setups. The Playbook Trainer started as an internal exercise — a way to drill the judgment call that no spreadsheet teaches: given this tape, which structure do you put on, and what does it pay? We published it because practicing on real history turned out to be far more instructive than reading about strategies in the abstract.

Where the data comes from

Every scenario in the trainer is a real past market session, not a simulation:

Market context shown alongside scenarios — trend and volatility readings, economic-calendar and earnings markers — is drawn from the same historical record.

What the trainer is — and is not

Playbook Trainer is an educational practice tool. It is a place to build pattern recognition, learn how vertical spreads are priced, and feel — safely — what a max loss does to an account.

It is not investment advice, a trade-signal service, or a brokerage. No real orders are placed and no real money is at stake. Historical results are hypothetical, simplified, and do not predict future performance. Options involve substantial risk: even defined-risk spreads can lose their entire maximum loss, and short option positions can be assigned. If you trade with real money, that is your decision and your risk — nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell any security.

How the site is funded

The core game is free: ten rounds per session, no account, no download. An optional SPXPlay Pro subscription removes the session cap, and the free tier may show ads. That is the entire business model — we do not sell trading signals, courses, or your data.
